Located in the Energy dock in Barcelona Port, it is the oldest regasification plant in Spain and continental Europe.
This facility was commissioned in 1969. It currently has six tanks, is equipped with the technology needed to load and offload tankers, and boasts a total LNG storage capacity of 760,000 m³ and an emission capacity of 1,950,000 m³ (n)/h.
Background: in 2015, during the cathodic protection inspection, it indicated that the cathodic protection system was insufficient to protect the plant’s piping rack.
At the beginning of 2016, Procainsa SA started the cathodic protection design, according EN- 14505: Cathodic protection of complex structures.
Procainsa SA designed the new cathodic protection system by impressed current to the buried pipeline network in the plant.
The system consists of five Cathodic Protection Stations through anodic beds in deep holes of 50m in length, with an inactive part of 20m to distribute the protection current as efficiently as possible, distributed in the LNG plant and 36 Cathodic Protection monitoring points equipped with permanent and recordable reference electrodes and coupon.
A special difficulty for the implementation of the system has been the realization of deep drilling in the sandy terrain of the Llobregat river delta, where the plant is situated. Several thousand meters of cables have been laid for the correct installation and monitoring.
Like all equipment in the plant, the cathodic protection stations are permanently monitored in the Control Room with indications of output current values, reference potential and voltage failure alarm.
In December of 2016, Procainsa finished the commissioning of the new cathodic protection systems.
