In the last decades, electrical systems have increased the stray currents issue to buried pipeline network. The most significant are the traction systems of electrical trains, wind farms, transportation system and distribution of electric power… etc.
Ideally, during design, the pipeline is separated from these systems to avoid the interferences, but in most cases, both systems must coexist with the possibility of the existence of stray currents and it can affect the pipeline network.
For two years, Procainsa SA has performed a detailed study of the pipeline network, segmenting the sections that were affected by stray currents. Finally, more than 50 AC drainage units were installed; several current drains connected to the train tracks, as well as new cathodic protection stations.
Procainsa SA has helped us to understand the stray currents issues that existed in our pipeline network. Later it, Procainsa SA has realised an implementation of the cathodic protection system to mitigate the affections by stray currents that affect our facilities.
